Linoleum-plywood is made from renewable resources, offers plenty of room for creativity, and is highly robust.
Both linoleum and plywood have excellent properties. When combined, the two create a unique blend with multiple benefits. Renowned architects including Ludwig Mies van der Rohe und Walter Gropius relied on linoleum because of its natural appeal, versatility, and durability. Plywood, on the other hand, is known for its extreme stability and layered structure. Within the Gira product range, linoleum-plywood has played a key part since 2014. It complements the Gira Esprit design line as a sustainable alternative to conventional variants.
Linoleum-plywood is fabricated on the basis of renewable resources. As the standard option for high-quality floor coverings and tabletops, linoleum mainly consists of linseed oil, wood flour, limestone, jute, and resin.
The type of plywood used at Gira is made from PEFC-certified birch timber, which grows under strict ecological regulations in Finland. To process the wood, thin plies are glued together with adjacent layers having their wood grain rotated up to 90°. This technique produces an particularly stable material.
Linoleum-plywood has a homogenous and firm structure that allows for extraordinary highlights in interior spaces. It is moreover resistant to oil, heat, and low-maintenance. Linoleum forms a slightly coarse surface with a pleasant, unmistakable feel to it.
Linoleum-plywood is one possible variant among Gira Esprit switches, a design line characterised by clear edges and elegant details. Their broad frames leave enough room for the material to artfully accentuate the wall. Linoleum-plywood thereby exudes a sense of natural, homely warmth.
