The Gira weather sensor, in combination with the weather control unit for KNX, reliably measures temperature, precipitation, wind speed, and ambient brightness, and transmits this data to the KNX system. The local weather data can thus be utilized for building automation. Based on the meteorological sensor data, the building can be automatically and selectively controlled for specific functions depending on the weather.

For instance, weather-dependent control of blinds or shutters is enabled, protecting the shading systems from damage and supporting energy-efficient building technology. The weather sensor with weather control unit allows for the individual control of up to eight window fronts through three integrated brightness sensors, tailored to the respective cardinal direction. This targeted control significantly reduces energy consumption.

The weather station consists of the outdoor weather sensor, the weather control unit, and an optional mast mounting for the sensor. A wind wheel specially mounted on the underside measures the wind speed regardless of the wind direction and remains functional even in snow and ice. The weather unit is installed in the control cabinet as a DIN rail-mounted device.
The Gira Weather sensor with weather control unit for KNX gathers data and securely transmits it to your in-house KNX system. Connected devices then automatically perform the desired functions: blinds move to the desired position when the sun is shining, or return to a safe position in stormy weather.

Additionally, the day-night switch allows you to define individual switching actions based on the time of day, enabling the Smart Home to perform corresponding actions automatically depending on the operating mode “day” or “night.” For instance, if the ambient brightness falls below a certain threshold, the Smart Home switches to “night” mode, and your pathway or garden lighting automatically turns on.
The weather station communicates via the globally trusted KNX Secure standard. This ensures that even external bus cables and communication between the weather control unit, the weather sensor, and other Smart Home components are protected against tampering.
